Mosaic
Overview
You will be creating a mosaic styled design using specific color schemes inspired by Alma Thomas. This project will help you better understand color schemes, alignment tools and shape tools in Illustrator.

Project Requirements

Only one color scheme can be used which can be either primary, secondary, monochromatic, complementary, triadic, warm or cool colors.
-
White can not be used in your shapes, but can be used in the background.
-
Black can only be used if it is part of a monochromatic color scheme.

Attention to details is shown with proper alignment.
Step 1: Brainstorming Steps
-
Create a new folder inside your Final folder and name it “Mosaic”.
-
Create a new Google Doc inside your Mosaic folder and copy and paste the Mosaic Creative Brief into this new doc.
-
Fill out the top of the Creative Brief and title it by clicking on Untitled Document.
-
Complete the Creative Brief brainstorming steps.
Step 2: Color Scheme Exercise & Quiz (20-30mins)

Work through the slides and the quiz. Mr. Wiant will review your work when you are done. Do not forget to complete the quiz!

Turn your AI file into your Mosaic folder and title it “LastName_ColorExercise”

Step 3: Project Steps
-
Either sketch out a pattern you would like to create or find a reference photo.
-
Create an 8.5x11 inches wide AI file.
-
Upload your sketch or reference photo into Illustrator and embed it.
-
Decide on one color scheme you will use by looking at your Color Scheme Worksheet from Step 2.
-
Decide a shape to use and begin to lay out your mosaic to create an abstract pattern or an abstract design that represents an object.

1. Save your Illustrator file as “lastName_mosaic.ai”.
2. Export your file as a JPG by going to File>Export>Export As and changing the format to JPG.
3. Make sure to check the Use Artboards box on the bottom left. If you don’t, you will not have a nice rectangle design and you will lose points.
4. Save your JPG file using the settings below:
- Color Model: CMYK
- Quality: 10
- Resolution: 300
5. Place both the JPG and the Illustrator files into a folder titled “Mosaic”.
6.Submit Final Checklist in Schoology.

Historical Poster
Overview
You will create a poster that represents or celebrates an historical event or historical person. Think about a topic that may be meaningful to you or interesting to you. You will need to create a design that incorporates the design skills you have learned in this semester and showcases new skills and creativity.

Step 1: Brainstorming Steps
-
Create a new folder inside your Final folder and name it “Historical Poster”.
-
Create a new Google Doc inside your Historical Poster folder and copy and paste the Historical Poster Creative Brief into this new doc.
-
Fill out the top of the Creative Brief and title it by clicking on Untitled Document.
-
Complete the Creative Brief brainstorming steps.
Step 2: Project Steps
-
Create a 11x17 inch file in Photoshop. Make sure you change the units to inches if needed.
-
Resolution is set to 180
-
Directly use your brainstorming and sketch, start to develop your design.
-
Do your best to only use copyright free images.
Step 3: Turn In Directions

Save your file as a high-res JPG and PSD titled “lastName_Historical Poster”.
-
Go to File>Save A Copy and change the Format to JPG. Select the highest resolution option selected when you are saving it.

Upload the PSD file and JPG file to your project folder.

Complete and submit the checklist in Schoology.

Surrealism
Overview
You will apply your knowledge of photo editing to blend multiple images to create a surrealistic styled, dreamlike design. This design must represent you in some way. How can it represent your culture, background, interests, neighborhood, etc?

Concept needs to relate or represent you in some manner.

At least 5 images need to be used to create the design.

Try to use only copyright free images during this project.

Choice Poster
Overview
Using your brainstorming and sketch, you will design your own book cover or music poster. Remember that your design needs to represent your brainstorming so take time to create a solid brainstorming plan.

How do I apply my past Photoshop skills and knowledge of masks in this design?

Appropriate tools were used which needed to include either the pen tool, selection tools, layer masks or clipping masks.

Design principles are used (flow, hierarchy and typography)

Images are altered to show creativity, attention to details and Photoshop skills
-
Designs need to include: at least 4 images, title and author for book covers or title of music poster to showcase typography skills.

Step 2: Project Steps

Create a new PSD file 8.5x11 inches for a book cover or 11x17 inches for a music poster with a resolution of 180.
-
Open your sketch up to directly use it to start to create your design.
-
Find images on Google that are large resolutions and are not blurry.
-
Open the saved image in Photoshop.
-
Drag that image over to the PSD file you created BEFORE you start to alter the image. This will ensure you have the correct size photo before you start to work on your design.

Overview
You will create a Photoshop poster that shows a personal fear of yours. You will need to use the pen tool some place within the design, along with your other selection tools.

About Me Poster Assignment
Overview
This project will be an opportunity for you to share a little bit about yourself so we can get to know our fellow designers. You will present your work at the end of the project as part of your grade. The brainstorming needs to be done before you start working on your design. Brainstorming is part of the design cycle and part of your project grade.
Objective - What is the problem I need to solve?

An image of yourself needs to be on the page. Email a photo from your phone to your school Gmail account. This will need to be done outside of class times since phones can’t be out. Plan accordingly.
